1st Grade Curriculum Overview
Grading System
A student's grade consists of two major categories, formative assessments (60% of final grade) and summative assessments (40% of final grade).
Formative Assessments
are utilized throughout the learning process. These include:
- Weekly memorization assessments
- Weekly handwriting assignments
- Weekly linguistics assignments
- Daily silent reading logs
- Daily classroom performance (participation, citizenship, etc.)
- Tajwīd assignments
Summative Assessments
are a summary of a student's development at a particular point in time. These include:
- Tafsīr tests
- Linguistics tests
- Tajwīd tests
- Quizzes
Please note that a student's culminating projects and portfolios are included as summative assessments.
Weekly Schedule
The class information below shows the days that cover each of the seven areas within a full week, each day having one 60-minute period of Qurʾānic Arabic. Every class begins with 10 minutes of silent reading, and memorization home-study is listened to daily.
Monday - Handwriting
Tuesday - Linguistics, Vocabulary
Wednesday - Elocution
Thursday - Linguistics, Vocabulary
Friday - Exegesis, Vocabulary
Memorization Schedule
All students should review Surat Al-Fatiha, Ayatul-Kursi, and the Surahs from Nas to Asr
